Dr Dale Creamer is Head of Interventional Radiology at Groote Schuur Hospital, a senior lecturer at the University of Cape Town (UCT), and currently practices at UCT Private Academic Hospital.

He serves as the Academic Lead for this Interventional Radiology Programme.

He earned his MBChB from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and completed his MMed in Diagnostic Radiology at Stellenbosch University. In 2021, he was awarded Fellowship of the College of Diagnostic Radiologists (FC Rad Diag), followed by a Fellowship in Interventional Radiology from the University of Calgary in 2022, where he developed a special interest in women’s health.

Driven to advance the field locally, he is committed to establishing a sub-specialist training programme in Interventional Radiology in South Africa.

 

Professor Charles Sanyika is the Head of Interventional Radiology at Wits University Donald Gordon Medical Centre in Johannesburg.

He earned his MBChB from the University of Zimbabwe and trained in radiology at the University of Natal, Durban.

He is the President of the South African Interventional Society (SAINTS) and a founding member of the Society of African Interventional Radiology and Endovascular Therapy (SAFIRE).

He also serves on the executive committee of the Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association of Southern Africa (HPBASA) and is a member of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe and the Society of Interenventional Radiology. He has special interests in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary interventions, transplant interventions, and interventional oncology.

His contributions to IR continue to advance the field in South Africa and beyond.

Dr Gareth Bydawell completed his medical degree at the University of Cape Town in 1998.

 

He specialized in Radiology at St George’s Hospital, London, in 2008, and completed an Interventional Radiology Fellowship there in 2009. He passed the EBIR board exam in 2014.

Dr Bydawell is the chairperson of the RSSA SAINTS subgroup (South African Interventional Society).

He is a partner at Lake Smit & Partners in Durban, holds a European Board of Interventional Radiology Diploma, and is an honorary lecturer at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital in Durban, KZN.

He actively contributes to the growth of interventional radiology in South Africa.

Dr Peiser is South Africa’s first - and currently only - qualified paediatric interventional radiologist. He earned his MBChB from UCT and his MMed in Diagnostic Radiology from the Wits Univeristy. In 2021 he recieved his Radiology Degree from the College of Diagnostic Radiologists (FC Rad Diag SA) .

 

He was accepted into the fellowship program at SickKids Hospital in Toronto, Canada where he specialised in Paediatric Interventional Radiology. During his fellowship he recieved additional training in sclerotherapy for vascular malformations.

Now at Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital in Johannesburg he leads its Intervetional Radiology service. In addition to this role, he is the Administrator of the Wits University Radiology program.

His vision is to provide world-class paediatric radiology services in South Africa

Dr Harriet Etheredge (PhD) is the Ethics Lead at Genomics UK.  She holds an MSc in Bioethics and Health Law and a PhD in Health Communication from the University of the Witwatersrand and is affiliated with Steve Biko Centre for Bioethics, University of the Witwatersrand

She served as Ethics and Regulatory Manager at Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre (2015–2022) and contributed to teaching at the Steve Biko Centre for Bioethics from 2021. In 2022, she was seconded part-time to the AgenDA Research Consortium as Head of Ethics and Regulatory Compliance. Since November 2022, she has been Ethics Lead at Genomics England, guiding ethical oversight in genomics research and policy.

With a keen interest in research ethics, she co-chaired the Wits Human Research Ethics Committee (Medical) and is a widely published academic and ethic speaker.  

Her focus on cutting-edge technologies brings fresh, innovative insights, making her a thought leader in her field.
