Thank you for reading the Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) of iCognition t/a VisualLive CK 1999/051172/23 (“VisualLive)”). VisualLive’s eLecture Platform Service primarily consists of the VLearn eLecture platform and related services such as system related emails.

 The Medical Education Network (MedED) does not always pre-screen or monitor the content posted by users of communications services, chat rooms, message boards, newsgroups, software libraries, or other interactive services that may be available on or through this site.

7.  JURISDICTION
This AUP shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of South Africa and the parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the South African Courts. You expressly agree that the exclusive jurisdiction for any claim or action arising out of or relating to this AUP or your use of this site shall be filed only in the courts of South Africa.

2.1   The Medical Education Network (MedED) recognises the importance of its users’ privacy and takes steps to protect their privacy. This policy discloses the privacy practises for all products, sites and services of The Medical Education Network (MedED).
2.2 By visiting The Medical Education Network (MedED)’s eLecture Platform/websites or using any of our services, you acknowledge that you accept the practises and policies outlined in this Privacy Statement.

 This Privacy Statement covers The Medical Education Network (MedED)’s treatment of personally identifiable information (“personal information”) that The Medical Education Network (MedED)’s eLecture Platform gathers when you access the eLecture Platform sites   controlled/owned by Visual Live (collectively “VisualLive’s eLecture Platform sites”)
  What this Privacy Policy does not cover
In some instances, The Medical Education Network (MedED) merely provides a platform through which content can be uploaded/made available and through which content can viewed and used by its users. In these instances, the sites/services are not controlled/owned by The Medical Education Network (MedED). The Medical Education Network (MedED) has no access to or control over them or their content. In these instances, the data collected through the use of such sites is controlled by the clients and is governed by the privacy policy of the entity/person who controls/owns such site, and not by Visual Live.

 •   your professional organisation registration number (HPCSA or other)          
 •   your area of speciality or expertise
 •   your area of interest
 •   information related to whether you are in government or private organisations
3.4 Any and all information provided by users of our website/s, event registrants, survey respondents and all other readers and customers of our products and services is kept strictly confidential and never sold, reused, rented, loaned or otherwise disclosed.
3.5 This includes information obtained as follows:
   •   when you visit our website we collect details of your Internet Protocol (IP) information you provide in your communications with us or on registering on our Website/s;
 •   details about how you use our Website/s including the content you accessed, any searches you conducted, your length of visit, login details, time and date of visit
 •   your opinion as you express it in chat, forums and interviews;
 •   content and links accessed in our system generated emails.

3.6 We analyse our site logs and strive to constantly improve the value of our content. These logs are not personally identifiable and we make no attempt to link them with the individuals that browse the site.
3.7 The Medical Education Network (MedED)’s eLecture Platform tracks users’ IP addresses to help diagnose problems with our server and administer our Website/s.
3.8 We also use IP addresses to gather broad demographic information about our users in general. This information does not contain anything by which users can be identified personally.
3.9 We may combine demographic information supplied by a subscriber at registration in conjunction with site usage data to provide profiles, in aggregate form, about our users and their preferences for content and sponsorship purposes.
3.10 You agree that we may share information with our clients to help them better understand our services and user demographics, but never, at any time, will The Medical Education Network (MedED) disclose information about individual users.
 
4.  SECURITY AND CONFIDENTIALITY
To prevent unauthorised access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.
 
5.  RETENTION OF INFORMATION
We retain your data for as long as is required to provide our services to you or if necessary for legal purposes or legitimate interests. In particular, we generally retain data in relation to:
•    services provided by us for a period of five years after the services has been provided, unless our relationship with you continues for a longer period;
•    marketing and information purposes until you inform us that you no longer wish to hear from us for example, through clicking ‘unsubscribe’ on an email communication) If you express this preference we may retain your contact details on a suppression list so that you no longer      receive communications from us.
•    Your accreditation records for a period of 5 years from date of completion after which time they are deleted.
 
6.  REGISRATION FOR EVENTS AND ONLINE SERVICES
•    Users signing up for our online events or specialised services need to register first.
•    They are required to provide their contact information which may include, but not be limited to name, e-mail address, regional location and area of specialisation.
•    We use this information to communicate with users, provide requested services, and to improve the value and experience of visitors to our Website/ss.
•    We only use aggregate demographic information about our audience for reporting or marketing purposes, or to improve our service.

8.  PRIVACY OF YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS
8.1   The The Medical Education Network (MedED)’s eLecture Platform sites do, on occasion, provide newsletters which keep our readers abreast of the latest news and events occurring on the platform.
8.2 Additionally The Medical Education Network (MedED) provides invites to events and seminars that are hosted through its platform.
8.3 Accessing this platform is free, but individuals must request to join our mailing lists by signing up through a form on our website/s.
8.4 Users of the platform are required to give their contact information including name, e-mail address and speciality, as well as demographic information including but not limited to regional location and nature of place of work (Government or Private).
8.5 We use any information collected to enhance the value of our content, the experience of our users and to better serve the needs of our target audience.
8.6  Recipients of our newsletters can, at anytime, unsubscribe using the instructions provided at the top and at the bottom of each newsletter.
8.7    We do not sell, rent, loan, trade or lease the addresses on our mailing list to anyone under any circumstances. In addition, our list server software is configured in such a way as to refuse to divulge the e-mail addresses of our list subscribers to anyone but authorised staff of The Medical Education Network (MedED).

9.1   From time to time, The Medical Education Network (MedED)’s eLecture Platform conducts a number of online surveys.
