Questions Our Members Ask Us Most Frequently

Is the Medical Education Network a CPD Provider?

The Medical Education Network is an independent medical education and information publishing company.

We offer a range of high-quality, clinically-robust CPD content to support the professional development of healthcare practitioners.

We obtain accreditation for our activities from the South African Medical Association and abide by thier terms and conditions.

If you think we are not living up to those standards, you can contact the CPD team at the SA Medical Association on +27 (0) 12 481 2000.

How do I earn CPD points MedED?

We offer a range of CPD activities on the Medical Education Network, including webinars, podcasts, case studies and text articles.

Each month, we will typically have at least 1 Clinical and 1 Ethical CPD Activity available to you.

All current CPD Activities are listed on the FocusON CPD Academy page, and you can Sign up to be notified of them.

You will need to be Registered with MedED and Logged on before completing an activity and receiving your points.

How do the CPD points Work On MedED?

The number of CPD points you earn depends on the activity you complete:

Most CPD activities on this platform are Level 1 and will award either 1 or 2 points.

Typically, if you attend:

  • A Live Webinar – You will earn 1 Level 1 point per hour of live streaming.
  • An On-demand Webinar – You will earn 1 Level 1 point per hour of content.
  • A Podcast  – You will earn 1 Level 1 point per hour, plus an additional point if you complete the associated questionnaire.
  • A Clinical Article – You will earn 2 Level 1 points per hour of content.
  • A Case Study – You will earn 1 Level 1 point per hour of content.

To ensure your points are recorded, log in before completing an activity and submit any required questionnaires.

For details on how to register on the Medical Education Network, we've put together a list of Frequently Asked Questions

I  Can't Access My Event or MCQ Questionnaire

We understand it can be frustrating if you’re unable to access an event or questionnaire.

Please double-check that you’re registered with us and logged in before trying again.

If you have questions regarding your Registration, you can access the Registration Help section here

Still having trouble? Don’t worry—we’re here to help! Contact us, and we’ll assist you as soon as possible.

I failed the Accreditation MCQ twice. Why can’t I take it again?

The HPCSA mandates that you should pass a CPD-associated questionnaire with at least 70%.

You have three attempts to pass a questionnaire on MedED.

Suppose you don’t pass after three tries. In that case, we will block further attempts on this questionnaire to ensure that no false players are trying to access your account or fraudulently complete activities.

Need help? Just reach out to us!

Do I have a Record of Activities I have passed on the Medical Education Network?

Yes, you do!

The great news is that while you are no longer required to submit your activities to the HPCSA, we understand that you do need reassurance that your points are available should you need them.

We offer our practitioners two options:

1. When you complete a CPD questionnaire activity with us, you will find a certificate available on the Congratulations page. You can either print or download that certificate from that page

2. We also store a copy of your certificate for you. Simply log on, navigate to your Profile, and navigate to My eLearning. You will find the certificates and downloads available for any activity you have completed on our channel.

I am an HPCSA-registered healthcare professional. Must I submit my certificates to the HPCSA?

First, the good news! If you are registered with the HPCSA, once you have completed and passed your activity, your job is done!

At the end of each month – usually on the 30th -   we will submit your points to the HPCSA on your behalf

You don’t have to do anything else!

We’ll email you a confirmation once your points have been uploaded so you can have peace of mind.

Once the HPCSA has uploaded your records, you will then receive an email from them so you have double confirmation.

I am not registered with the HPCSA, but I am a healthcare practitioner. Do the activities on your channel count towards my council requirements?

If you’re registered with a different healthcare council (e.g., if you’re a pharmacist), your CPD activities may still count towards your professional requirements.

After you complete an activity with us, you will see a certificate on the page indicating your successful completion.

Additionally, if you are logged on, you can go to your Profile and view your eLearning sections to download a copy there.

You should submit that certificate to your Registration Council.

If you’re unsure about your council’s requirements, we recommend reaching out to them directly.

I am not from South Africa. Are my CPD points valid in another country?

If you are a Registered Practitioner from outside of South Africa, it’s best to confirm with your country’s regulatory body whether they accept CPD points obtained in South Africa.

HPCSA CPD activities completed on MedED should be valid for healthcare professionals registered in the sub-Saharan region.

However, you will need to submit your certificates to your country’s registration body and confirm with them directly.
Your CPD records stay available on the Medical Education Network for five years.

You can download your results and certificates anytime for submission to your country’s registration body. Please see the sections above on how to access your certificates.

I completed a CPD activity on MedED. Why are my points not reflecting on the HPCSA site?

We process CPD points once a month, typically on the 30th of the month

You’ll receive an email confirmation from us once your submission is completed.

The HPCSA should then send you a follow-up email once they’ve processed your points.

If you need your points uploaded sooner, let us know—we may be able to help!

I received an email from MedED saying you had submitted my points, but I have not heard from the HPCSA. What should I do?

The HPCSA is responsible for uploading our submissions onto their which may take a little time, given the volume of information they handle each day.

Even if you can’t see them right away, if you have received a notice from us, we guarantee your points have been submitted.

If your points haven’t been reflected after a month, don’t worr. Drop us a line and we’ll follow up for you.

I attended a LIVE Webinar, but my points are not reflecting?

There may be two reasons for this:

1. We upload the attendee register within 48 hours of the LIVE event.

It may be that we have not yet uploaded it.

If you believe our uploads are late, you are welcome to contact us to follow up, and we'll check into it for you.

2. To earn CPD points for a webinar, you must be online for at least 90% of the session.

If your points aren’t reflecting, it may be because the system didn’t log you for the required time.

Think there’s been an error? Let us know, and we’ll check for you.

My MP number is incorrect on my certificates. What should I do?

Your MP number is captured when you first register on our platform.

If there’s a mistake, don’t stress! We’ll help you fix it.

For security reasons, you can’t update your MP number yourself.

Drop us a line, give us as much detail as you can, and we’ll sort it out for you.

How long can I access my CPD Certificates on MedED for?Your completed CPD activities stay in your profile for three years.

As Accreditation runs from January to December, so will your three-year term.

For example:
If you complete an activity in July 2020, it will be removed at the end of December 2023, giving you 3 years within the Accredited Period.

You can download your past certificates anytime you need them from your eLearning Profile.
