India has confirmed its first mpox case involving the fast-spreading clade 1b strain, detected in a 38-year-old man from the Malappuram district of Kerala who had recently travelled from the United Arab Emirates. The patient was admitted to the government medical college hospital in Kerala last week. This marks the first record of the new variant in South Asia.
