About this Activity

Interventional Radiology (IR) is playing an increasingly pivotal role in women’s health by offering minimally invasive treatments for conditions that traditionally required surgery. These procedures often avoid the need for hospitalisation or general anaesthesia, allowing patients to resume normal activities with minimal recovery time.

In this module, Dr Dale Creamer, Head of Interventional Radiology at Groote Schuur Hospital, will showcase how IR is reshaping the landscape of women’s health. He will discuss key procedures such as endometrial ablation for abnormal uterine bleeding and uterine fibroid embolisation, both of which provide effective, less invasive alternatives to hysterectomy.

Dr Creamer will also examine the vital role of IR in managing postpartum haemorrhage, highlighting how minimally invasive, image-guided techniques can deliver life-saving outcomes without the need for major surgery.

Through case studies, the module will examine the implications of these interventions, focusing on improved recovery times, fertility preservation, and enhanced quality of life for women. Participants will gain insights into identifying suitable candidates for these procedures, understanding the referral process, and the growing impact of IR in women’s health.

Come join us to gain practical insights into how Interventional Radiology is advancing precision medicine and transforming women’s health.

  What You Will Learn

In this one-hour webinar, Dr Dale Creamer will explore:

1. Minimally invasive alternatives to surgery

Understand how endometrial ablation and uterine fibroid embolisation provide effective, uterus-preserving options for abnormal uterine bleeding and fibroids, reducing the need for hysterectomy.

2. Life-saving management of postpartum haemorrhage (PPH)

Explore the critical role of Interventional Radiology in controlling severe PPH, offering rapid, effective solutions that avoid major surgery.

3. Improved recovery and quality of life

Examine how IR procedures shorten recovery times, reduce hospital stays, and preserve fertility, with significant benefits for women’s overall wellbeing.

4.Referral pathways and patient selection
Gain practical insights into identifying appropriate candidates, optimising referrals, and integrating IR into multidisciplinary women’s healthcare.
